Why Muljava?
The name Muljava comes from the Croatian word mulj, which means mud. Near the Hunting Lodge is a confluence of the streams of Velika and Mala Radonja Rivers which constantly carries mud along its way.

The past of the Muljava district
Throughout history, Muljava has always been a junction of people and their activities. Until the 1960s, there used to be a forest railway which served for shipment of forest products to Vojnić and Vojnić station, as well as the lodging house for forest workers. The sawmill, plant of the wood industry company Našička d.d.  and gendarmerie, all built during the first half of the 20th century, disappeared throughout the turbulent history.  
This turbulent history refers to the Second World War – it was Muljava from where the Partisans penetrated the territory at dawn on 14 May 1942.  
The president of the former Yugoslavia Josip Broz Tito once visited the hospitality facility at Muljava – while travelling through the Kordun region, he shortly stayed there on 5 October 1967.

The Hunting Lodge Muljava
In 1962, a small one-storey motel was built on the ruins of the former plant of Našičke d.d. company. The motel was named "Muljava". The first floor of the facility was built in 1964. The Forest Management Service Karlovac (Šumsko gospodarstvo Karlovac ) at the time took over the management of the facility in 1966. The building got its contemporary shape in 1981. The fourth and last adaptation was the consequence of war devastation and it was finished in November 2006. Throughout the years, the Hunting Lodge changed a number of names:  Motel „Muljava“, Motel "14. maj" (14 May), Hunting House  "Muljava" ... Today, the Hunting Lodge Muljava is owned by Hrvatske šume d.o.o. (Croatian Forests Ltd), Forest Management Sevice Karlovac.
